BYD Shark 6 Extended Car Warranty

The BYD Shark 6 is a new-generation plug-in hybrid double-cab bakkie, pairing a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with BYD’s DM-O dual-motor hybrid system. It is a sophisticated vehicle — and once the factory warranty expires, the cost of repairing its combustion engine, transmission and conventional systems falls on the owner.
An extended motor warranty keeps those costs predictable. BYD’s high-voltage traction battery is covered by a separate long-term manufacturer battery warranty; an extended warranty focuses on the engine, drive electronics, gearbox and the conventional mechanical and electrical systems.
What’s covered
Petrol Engine & Internals
The 1.5T combustion engine’s internal components, turbocharger and head gasket.
Hybrid Drive Unit
Drive motor, reduction gearing and power-control electronics (excluding the traction battery cells).
Electrical & ECU
Engine and hybrid management modules, sensors and control electronics.
Cooling & Thermal
Engine and hybrid-system cooling: pumps, thermostat, radiators and hoses.
Charging Hardware
On-board charger and DC-DC converter hardware faults.
Steering & Suspension
Electric power steering, wheel bearings and suspension components.
24/7 Roadside Assistance
Nationwide towing, emergency fuel, lockout and accommodation benefits.
Why extended cover matters on a new-technology bakkie
The Shark 6 is among the first plug-in hybrid bakkies in South Africa, and out-of-warranty repair experience on this technology is still developing. That makes predictable cover especially valuable.
1.5T combustion engine and cooling — the petrol engine still requires oil, coolant and the usual mechanical components, and its turbocharger, water pump and thermal management are conventional failure points covered under an extended warranty.
Hybrid drive electronics and charging hardware — power-control units, the on-board charger and DC-DC converter are complex, high-value components. Hardware failures in these units (as distinct from the traction battery cells, which carry BYD’s separate battery warranty) are covered mechanical/electrical repairs.
Conventional electrical and driveline faults including sensors, infotainment, and drivetrain components are covered component failures under an extended warranty, just as on any modern vehicle.
