What Happens After the Mitsubishi Triton’s Factory Warranty Ends
The all-new Mitsubishi Triton arrived in South Africa on 19 November 2024 with a new chassis, a new 2.4-litre turbodiesel and Super Select 4WD-II. Earlier Tritons (the previous generation, including the 2.4 DI-D) are also still on the road.
This page covers the current generation, but notes the older cars where the sources do. It sets out the factory cover, what the new generation changed, what is and isn’t documented about problems, and how an extended motor warranty fits in.
Mitsubishi Triton Factory Warranty and Service Plan — What You Started With
- Vehicle warranty: 5 years, unlimited km (Mitsubishi’s “Diamond Advantage” cover)
- Service plan: 5 years / 90,000 km, with services every 10,000 km
- Roadside assistance: 5 years, unlimited km
These are the new-generation terms per cars.co.za. Older-generation coverage quotes different, shorter terms, so check your service booklet or a Mitsubishi dealer. A 5-year service plan with 10,000 km intervals covers only 90,000 km, so the plan can run out before the warranty does.
Mitsubishi Triton: What the 2024 Generation Offers
The new Triton is a different truck from its predecessor, with an all-new chassis, redesigned suspension, a larger load bin lowered by 45 mm and a 3.5-tonne towing capacity.

Launch prices only. The sources we reviewed do not describe the previous generation’s engines in detail, and a new generation doesn’t change the terms on a Triton you already own.
Known Mitsubishi Triton Problems to Date
We found no South African buyer’s guide with a documented fault list, and no recall, for the Triton, so we don’t publish an invented one. We quote no repair costs.
New generation: no track record yet
The 2.4-litre engine and chassis are new, so the first cars are only now approaching two years old and there is no long-term South African failure record. Check any Triton by VIN for recalls with a Mitsubishi dealer.
Previous generation
The older 2.4 DI-D and its common-rail injection system are widely discussed by owners, but the sources we reviewed did not give a documented fault list we could verify, so this page does not repeat it. Ask for the full service history on any used older Triton.

The 5-year unlimited-km warranty is strong, so extended cover matters most for owners who plan to keep the Triton beyond year five, for older-generation cars already out of warranty, and for working bakkies that tow or carry heavy loads.
