Known Mitsubishi Triton failure areas

DI-D injector wear and failure is the most commonly reported fault on high-mileage Triton diesels. Common-rail injector wear causes rough running, black smoke and power loss — and injector replacement on the 2.4 DI-D requires specialist calibration equipment. Injector failure is a mechanical component fault covered in full under extended warranty.

Turbocharger actuator faults on the 2.4 DI-D cause limp mode and loss of power. Variable-geometry turbo actuator failure is documented at higher mileages and is fully covered under extended warranty.

Automatic gearbox solenoid faults are reported on higher-mileage Triton automatics, causing erratic shifting and delayed engagement. Solenoid replacement and valve body repairs are covered under extended warranty.

Super Select 4WD system faults — including actuator failures affecting 4WD engagement — have been reported on older Triton models. The 4WD transfer case and its electronic actuator are covered as mechanical component failures under warranty.
