Mercedes-Benz Extended Car Warranty

Mercedes-Benz Extended Car Warranty South Africa

There is a common misconception that a Mercedes-Benz costs an arm and a leg to maintain. In reality, Mercedes-Benz service parts are among the least expensive of all luxury brands in South Africa — but the factory warranty still expires, and unexpected mechanical failures on a Mercedes can be costly without cover in place.

An extended motor warranty from Warranty Extender protects your Mercedes against engine, gearbox, electrical, and other mechanical failures after the factory three-year/unlimited km warranty lapses.

What’s covered

Engine & Internals

All internal engine components, turbocharger, timing chain, and head gaskets across petrol and diesel variants.

7G-Tronic Gearbox

Automatic transmission internals, torque converter, and mechatronics unit.

Electrical & ECU

Engine management (ME/CDI), ABS, ESP, and associated sensors and control units.

Cooling System

Water pump, thermostat, expansion tank, and coolant hoses.

Fuel System

High-pressure fuel pump, injectors, and fuel rail on CDI diesel and petrol variants.

24/7 Roadside Assistance

Towing, emergency fuel, lockout assistance, and accommodation benefits.

Known Mercedes-Benz failure areas

Mercedes-Benz vehicles are well-engineered, but specific mechanical failure areas are documented across the C-Class, E-Class, GLC and GLE ranges in South Africa — and these are not wear-and-tear items.

7G-Tronic conductor plate failure is one of the most widely documented Mercedes faults in South Africa. The 7G-Tronic automatic transmission (code 722.9) fitted to the C200, C220, C250, E200, GLC and GLE contains a TCM conductor plate that breaks down internally over time. Symptoms begin as intermittent rough gear changes and progress to permanent harsh shifting, limp mode or inability to select gears. Conductor plate replacement is a specialist workshop job and a genuine mechanical component failure.

Balance shaft and timing chain failure on the M271 petrol engine (C200, C230, C180) is documented on pre-2010 examples. The balance shaft sprocket can fail prematurely, causing the timing chain to jump or snap — resulting in catastrophic engine damage. A rattling noise on startup is the classic early warning. This is a mechanical failure, not a service item.

Air suspension compressor failure on GLE and E-Class models fitted with AIRMATIC suspension is a documented fault. The compressor motor or air struts can fail, causing the vehicle to sag on one corner or develop an unstable ride. Replacement of the compressor or struts is a significant bill and a genuine mechanical failure fully covered under an extended warranty.
