Why the V8 4.5 TDi demands strict service adherence
The LC200’s 4.5-litre V8 diesel has a large oil capacity (approximately 10 litres), but that volume becomes a liability if oil change intervals are extended. High operating temperatures degrade the oil faster than on smaller engines, and the common-rail injectors are sensitive to the particulates that accumulate in degraded oil. Toyota’s documented HPFP and injector failure cases are strongly correlated with extended oil change intervals.
The LC300’s 3.3 twin-turbo is a newer engine generation, and Toyota’s service intervals reflect the tighter tolerances of the twin-turbo system. Both turbochargers need a clean, fresh oil supply at the correct interval to maintain shaft bearing integrity.
