Jetour T1 Extended Car Warranty

The Jetour T1 is the rugged-styled SUV from Chery’s Jetour brand, on sale in South Africa since October 2025. Petrol versions use a turbocharged 1.5-litre engine (125 kW / 270 Nm) driving the front wheels, or a turbocharged 2.0-litre (180 kW / 375 Nm) with four-wheel drive, both with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. A 1.5T i-DM plug-in hybrid joined the range in April 2026. The T1 was the sixth best-selling Chinese vehicle in South Africa in the first half of 2026, with 2,471 units sold — so a growing number of T1s will soon be on the used market.
Factory cover on the T1 is generous, but it doesn’t last forever and not all of it travels with the car. An extended motor warranty keeps repair costs predictable once the original cover runs out or doesn’t apply to you.
Jetour T1 Factory Warranty and Service Plan — What You Started With
- Vehicle warranty: 7 years / 200,000 km
- Service plan: 7 years / 70,000 km
- Engine warranty: 10 years / 1 million km (first owner only)
- Plug-in hybrid battery: 8 years
These are the terms announced at launch for the T1 range; confirm the terms on your specific vehicle with the dealer. The service plan stops at 70,000 km, so servicing beyond that is at the owner’s cost. The long engine warranty is limited to the first owner, so a used buyer should confirm what engine cover, if any, still applies to their vehicle.
Jetour T1: Current Model vs the Facelift
A facelifted T1 was previewed at the Beijing Motor Show in April 2026. It is not yet on sale in South Africa, so the comparison below sets what you can buy today against what has been shown so far.
| Current T1 (on sale) | Facelift T1 (previewed) | |
|---|---|---|
| Availability | On sale in SA since October 2025 | Previewed in Beijing, April 2026. Local production planned from 2027 at Rosslyn, Pretoria |
| Engines | 1.5T 125 kW / 270 Nm (FWD); 2.0T 180 kW / 375 Nm (4WD); 1.5T i-DM PHEV (from April 2026) | Current engines and the PHEV expected to carry over (not confirmed for SA) |
| Styling | Current design | Slotted grille with Jetour lettering, new LED headlights, new front bumper, restyled alloy wheels |
| Launch prices | Petrol R514,900 to R634,900; PHEV R689,900 | Not yet announced |
| Factory terms | 7 yr / 200,000 km warranty; 7 yr / 70,000 km service plan; 10 yr engine (first owner); 8 yr PHEV battery | Not yet announced for SA |
A facelift doesn’t change the factory terms on a car you already own.
Known Jetour T1 Problems and Complaints to Date
Here is what has been reported so far. Findings from regulators and road tests are stated as such; owner anecdote is flagged as anecdote. Long-term reliability data is limited because the model is new.
Payload rating dispute (regulatory finding)
The T1 and T2 were launched with an official payload of 300 kg on the licence disc. In August 2026 Jetour announced a revised rating of 475 kg including the driver, saying it was based on NRCS approval and that the vehicles had not been changed. The NRCS has since said Jetour’s T1 application is still in the approval process. In weighbridge tests witnessed by the AA and the NRCS at Clayville, Gauteng, the T1 Odyssey 2.0T recorded a payload of 538 kg and the T1 i-DM PHEV 508 kg; the T2 Xplora 2.0T recorded 455 kg, 20 kg below the revised figure. The AA has questioned how the rating rose by 175 kg (58%) without structural changes and has called for a recall notice. Jetour says TÜV NORD validated the revised figures and that a licensing solution for its T2 customers is being prioritised; it has not said the same for the T1.
What the payload issue means for owners
Existing owners remain legally bound by the 300 kg figure on their licence discs. As at 30 September 2026 no licence-disc update process had been agreed and no recall had been issued, and the AA warns owners could face consequences at a roadblock or weighbridge. This is a licensing and regulatory matter, not a mechanical fault, and an extended warranty does not cover it.
Throttle and gearbox calibration (road-test finding)
Road testers have criticised the 2.0T’s throttle and seven-speed DCT programming — dead space in the throttle pedal and a grabby first gear in traffic — although shifts on the move are described as seamless.
Fuel use above the claim (road-test finding)
Jetour claims 9.0 L/100 km for the 2.0T. Road tests report a best of 8.9 L/100 km in Eco mode and everyday figures of 10.9 to 12.0 L/100 km, with averages in the mid-11s.
Limited long-term data
The T1 has only been on sale since October 2025, so there is no long-term reliability record yet. We found no recall for a mechanical fault in the sources reviewed.

Why a Jetour T1 Owner Might Want Extended Cover
Buying a used T1. The 10-year engine warranty is limited to the first owner, so a second owner may be buying a vehicle with less engine protection than the brochure suggests. An extended warranty puts a defined level of cover back in place from day one.
Approaching the end of the 7-year / 200,000 km warranty. High-mileage owners reach 200,000 km well before seven years. From that point the cost of a failed transmission or turbo falls on the owner.
Complex, expensive components. The T1 uses a turbocharged engine, a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and, on the 2.0T, a four-wheel-drive system with electronic control. Plug-in hybrid components such as the high-voltage battery carry their own manufacturer warranty — ask Cheryl what an extended plan covers on the PHEV.
